I am thrilled and excited to be participating in my first scrapbooking contest – Lil’ Scrappers Big Summer Win Contest! We just found out today who made it on to Round 2 and I was chosen as one of the top 10 to move on!!! *happy dance*! There were so many beautiful and inspiring layouts! I was not optimistic that I would move on.
We have now been given permission to share our layouts on our personal blogs!
This was the challenge:
Challenge Round #1: “Personal GROWTH”
This opening contest round will be a layout challenge. Each participant is asked to reflect back to a period in time where “Personal Growth” was a struggling factor in their personal life. How did this obstacle affect you? How did you manage to overcome the obstacle(s). Did you grow personally from the experience.
* Their page MUST include a “Creative” self portrait (not your typical portrait picture)
* layout size must be a single 12×12 in size
* journaling must be in handwritten format.
Here’s my layout:

And a couple of detail pics – the Heidi Swapp ghost letters and butterfly don’t show up well in photos. However, the transparent quality of these embellishments helped to symbolize the “not finding me” theme of this page.
The journalling reads:
*not* finding me – and I’m finally okay…totally okay with that. Focus on the journey, not the destination. Find joy in the doing.

About this layout:
Products used:
- Lil’ Scrappers May kit – Piggy Tales pp and “me” chipboard letters, ribbon, Bazzill chipboardand chipboard backing for “*not*” sentiment.
- American Crafts “thickers” for the “*not*” sentiment
- Prima Crystals
- Heidi Swapp ghost letters and butterfly
- MM black bling lettering (I think) – for “okay” sentimentThe journalling reads:
*not* finding me – and I’m finally okay…totally okay with that. Focus on the journey, not the destination. Find joy in the doing.
The butterfly is just under the “me” sentiment – if you look closely you can see it. The butterfly symbolizes my flight, or journey. I added white rubons to the “finding” sentiment – which is also Heidi Swapp ghost letters. I used the black, red and white colour scheme, because it is my current favourite colour combo, but also because it went so well with the photo!
This photo is all about figuring out, and accepting that I can stop focusing so much on where I want to be, because I will never meet my own expectations. I took the photo in a mirror, in a dark room, and put my hand over the flash with my fingers open, which created a reddish glow on my face and hand. Cool effect! Believe it or not, I didn’t even edit it in Photoshop! (well, I cropped it, and flipped so that the “Canon” on my camera is not a mirror image…that’s it!). So, I am learning to live in the moment, and enjoy the journey of life. This is such a huge realization for me. I am so loving this journey that creativity, and scrapbooking is taking me on!So, I am still working on the blog candy – will post a pic asap. If you know me, I tend to put together some pretty yummy candy, and this time is no exception!
Thanks for stopping by!
Edited to add Blog Candy! Here is my *YUMMY* blog candy…wait…blog CAKE! lol It’s all about CUPCAKES! Who doesn’t LOVE cupcakes? Any flavour, the bigger the better, and the more icing and sprinkles, the better! So, my Blog Cake includes some Bella Cupcakeabella images, stamped on SU’s Whisper White Shimmer cardstock (have you seen this stuff? So shimmery and yummy!). I’ve also included some 6×6 Basic Grey’s Cupcake line of pp! There’s so much stuff, I couldn’t fit it all in the picture! (okay, so I forgot to include a couple of things and don’t want to retake the picture lol).

*BLOG CAKE*
Also included:
- Prima flowers
- K&Co Rhinestones
- Studio G clear cupcake stamp
- Cupcake/birthday-related sentiment brads ($ store)
