Just a quick drive-by post to show you a couple of recent art journal pages. The first one is Day 17 of the fabulous Gulfsprite - Christie’s 30Pages in 90 Days class. This page is so NOT my usual style, in any way. The colors, techniques, etc., are all outside of Kim’s box. LOVED IT! It’s a page about my female kitten, Summer. She really does LOVE to play!
The other spread is in my Dylusions journal, using lots of Dylusions stamps and sprays:
I started it before my vacation, and did all the doodling and lettering while on vacation. I just basically used every artistic word I could think of, and got out all my paint markers and doodle pens, and played. It’s a bonus when something like this actually ends up looking good. :)
So that’s all for today. I’m working on my istencils video, and will be offering up a cool giveaway, too. In the meantime, the fabulous Patti Parrish has an istencils promotion on right now! Check it out here!
Hello my friends! I’m excited to share a journal page I did as part of Christy’s “30 Pages in 90 Days” workshop. This session is closed to new members at the moment, but she will be running it again starting in June. I may be a bit biased, because I do teach for Christy’s other site – Art Geeks, but this course is AWESOME! Seriously, it is the BEST art journaling course I have ever taken. It is packed full of videos, pdf’s – three videos minimum for each page. A video each day, for 90 days! I am having so much fun, and learning so much. Love.
I used my current favorite stencil by the Crafter’s Workshop for the cityscape. I love the way it looks like the buildings are glowing. I used iridescent paints, and a white Uniball Signo marker to outline each building.
Yep, you read that right. Art journaling with RIBBON! I was given the challenge over at Art Geeks – to use a yard of ribbon in my art journal. So, not only did I step up to the challenge, but I videotaped it, too! :)
Hellooooooooooooo my friends! I am feeling so completely inspired lately. I love it when my muse is happy, and I can create stuff that I actually like. On the heels of taking two in-person classes with the fabulous Joanne Sharpe, I pulled out my Dylusions art journal, and some of my new products from the Art House Studio, and this is what happened. I only wish that I had made a video of my process. I am doing the next best thing – sharing lots of pictures, and see below for a description of all products and techniques used to create this spread (a mini tutorial).
First, – I am NOT affiliated with any of the blogs, stores, or products mentioned and linked in this post. Since I often get comments/questions about where I get my products – I purchased all products mentioned in this post from The Art House Studio, in Cambridge, Ontario Canada.
I started with a spread that had already been sprayed with my Dylusions Ink Sprays, and pulled out one of my new Crafter’s Workshop Stencils and glass bead gel, and stenciled the buildings across the bottom. That is the COOLEST effect! (If you would like to see this technique demonstrated, check out my Youtube video here) After the glass bead gel had fully dried, I added some pan pastel over the top of the glass bead gel (LOVE!).
This is what the stencil looks like (designed by Rhonda Palazzari) -
I used a variety of black permanent markers to draw the circle in the corner, and journaling lines. Then, I pulled out a few of my favorite shimmery paints – some Silks, as well as some Perfect Pigment Pure Liquid Acrylic (in Green Pearl – *YUM*). I painted each journaling section with a different shimmery paint. Then, I did the journaling, using several different permanent black pens. Then, I outlined in white with my Uniball Signo white pen. A little doodling around the edge, and I was finished. :)
I am really enjoying my instructor role over at Art Geeks! I have another Finish in Five challenge up – Episode 3 is a tribute to my awesome art friends.
Speaking of awesome art friends, I attended a couple of courses with THE lettering diva, Joanne Sharpe at The Art House Studio in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada yesterday! I had such a fabulous time, learning from the best, and meeting (or seeing again) – some AMAZING and creative, and talented women.
I had a request over on Art Geeks to do a journal flip. I was reluctant to do this, because I don’t always do my best work in my art journals, AND, I am always working in several journals at one time. I think I have only filled 2 journals in the 7 years that I have been art journaling. I also do a fair bit of personal writing on my pages, so I didn’t feel comfortable sharing that with the world. But, when I pulled out my two most recent favorite journals, I realized I had not done any personal written journaling in either one of them! So, here you go – a flip through my Moleskine 8×12, and my Dylusions journal. Neither one is even close to full, and there is some good, some bad, and some really really fugly! lol Oh, and there are some cute kitties helping me out, too. ;)
I admit it…I’m a Joanne Sharpe addict. I love her classes. I have taken every single one. AND, I will be taking a live in-person class with her next weekend! WOO HOO! I am pretty excited about that.
In the meantime, her current course, Letter Love 201, just started, and once you sign up, you have FOREVER access. Like Joanne says, it’s like you’re buying the book. It’s yours. She also has a very active Facebook group, which makes it even better. The ladies in that group are so friendly, and eager to share their art, and tips, and jokes too!
Here are a couple of my projects from the current course:
I decided I wanted to make an art journal spread, and record it, for future use in my art journaling videos. It’s basically a spread with my blog information on it. Just an excuse to play in my journal, really. And, I wanted to start using my pre-prepared journal spreads. I often just do backgrounds, because they are easy and mindless, basically. But I often don’t like the results, so I never end up completing it. This one started with some Golden mediums that I wanted to try. I did it so long ago, I can’t recall exactly what I did, but I know I started out with gesso on the left side page, and Golden pastel ground on the other side. I then layered ink sprays and paint, and alcohol inks. It turned into kind of a hot mess. I’m not crazy about pink, either, so the color just didn’t inspire me until today. I actually ended up liking the end result!
The zentangle-inspired dangles were inspired by Joanne Fink’s technique – more details on her blog – www.zenspirations.com

I recently joined a Facebook group, started by Kate Crane, a fabulous mixed media artist, where members create monthly art journal calendar spreads. I have seen this idea before, and have done a couple of spreads, but I have never really committed to the idea, and done it on a monthly basis. So, I thought I would try to do it this year. I started in December, and have maintained that one. I have January completed, and just finished February! Here is my completed spread:
There is lots of texture, and bling, which doesn’t photograph well. Here is my Youtube vide of me creating this spread:
