Timelapse Video and iStencils Giveaway! CONTEST CLOSED.

Hello my friends!  Spring finally seems to be here in Southwestern Ontario, Canada.  It sure took its time, though.  Sheesh.  We had SNOW last week!  Anyway, I wanted to share another video I put together for you.  I did a sponsored video for iStencils, and it ended up rather long – over an hour.  So, after getting a couple of negative comments about it, I made another one, with the same content, but I time-lapsed it.  I don’t know why I’m so concerned about what people think.  I should just do my thing, and let the haters hate.  Let the dislikers dislike.  Right?  After all, I got way more positive comments than negative.  Yah…easy to say.  Anyway, here’s the shorter version of my video.  The long version, and details about iStencils  is here.

How AWESOME is that?  I am so incredibly IN LOVE with their stencils.  And, I am not just saying that because they have asked me to.  (although they have) - I approached them, after ordering some of their stencils, and using them in my art journals.  They are extremely high quality.  They’re available in lots of sizes.  There are over 2600 to choose from.  Wow.  Here’s a little blurb about them, copied from their website:

“We have one of the largest online selections of stencils for home decor, custom clothing and more, including many different wall stencils, letter stencils, graffiti stencils and airbrush stencils.

So, I put together a video of me playing with my istencils, on my gelli plate.  It ended up being rather long, but I didn’t want to cut anything out, and I decided to actually talk through the video (instead of time-lapsing).  I hope you can hear me okay.  I have a soft voice to begin with, and I’ve had a bit of a sore throat, so my voice is a little crackly.

In addition to the 15% discount with the discount code “kimmerbe” (April 29-May 5 2013 only), istencils has generously offered a

$25.00 gift certificate

to be used towards your purchase of stencils from istencils, for one of my blog readers!  YAY!  How awesome is THAT?  What do you have to do to qualify?  It’s easy.  Just go to the istencils Facebook page, and “like” them.  Then, come back here and leave me a comment to indicate that you have done so.   That’s it.  Easy peasy.  I will choose one random winner on May 5, 2013.  If you already “like” istencils’ Facebook page, no problem.  You can still enter to win.  Just leave me a comment here, and let me know that you are already a fan of these fabulous stencils.

And, last but not least – a completed art journal page, using two iStencils that I did not use in the video, on a background that I created in the video.  The web is a Bad Ass stencil.

Art Journaling Pages

Just a quick drive-by post to show you a couple of recent art journal pages.  The first one is Day 17 of  the fabulous Gulfsprite - Christie’s 30Pages in 90 Days class.  This page is so NOT my usual style, in any way.  The colors, techniques, etc., are all outside of Kim’s box.  LOVED IT!  It’s a page about my female kitten, Summer.  She really does LOVE to play!

The other spread is in my Dylusions journal, using lots of Dylusions stamps and sprays:

I started it before my vacation, and did all the doodling and lettering while on vacation.  I just basically used every artistic word I could think of, and got out all my paint markers and doodle pens, and played.  It’s a bonus when something like this actually ends up looking good.  :)HHIfull HHIright HHleft

So that’s all for today.  I’m working on my istencils video, and will be offering up a cool giveaway, too.  In the meantime, the fabulous Patti Parrish has an istencils promotion on right now!  Check it out here!

Art Journal Tag at Art Geeks!

Hello my friends!  I just finished running my second round of  ”art journal tag” over at Artgeeks, which I called “Inspired by”.   I picked an  art journal page from the Artgeeks gallery, and created a page inspired by that page.  Then, I  scanned my page, and passed it on to the next person, who had 24 hours to create a page inspired by my page, and send their page to me, and I sent it to the next person, who repeated the process, until everyone had participated.  At the end, I posted all the results in the forum.  Sound like fun? It was! I started off, by choosing a page by Jeffy, and this is my page:

JT2Me

I used a gelli plate print for the silhouette shapes, with a Dina Wakely stencil by Crafter’s Workshop.  The background is several layers of collage, paint, and ink, in my Dylusions art journal.

If you want to see the page that inspired me to create this, and all the other pages that followed, click on over to Artgeeks, and join my “Finish in Five” group.  The “Inspired by” challenge results is contained within that discussion group.  And, it’s free to join, free to play along with the challenges, and there are 7 instructors!  Lots of creative goodness going on there.  :) AND IT’S ALL FREE!  FREE!  FREE!  lol.  I have trouble believing that sometimes.

City Girl

Hello my friends!  I’m excited to share a journal page I did as part of Christy’s “30 Pages in 90 Days” workshop.  This session is closed to new members at the moment, but she will be running it again starting in June.  I may be a bit biased, because I do teach for Christy’s other site – Art Geeks, but this course is AWESOME!  Seriously, it is the BEST art journaling course I have ever taken.  It is packed full of videos, pdf’s – three videos minimum for each page.  A video each day, for 90 days!  I am having so much fun, and learning so much.  Love.

I used my current favorite stencil by the Crafter’s Workshop for the cityscape.  I love the way it looks like the buildings are glowing.  I used iridescent paints, and a white Uniball Signo marker to outline each building.City Girl

So Grateful – An Art Journal Spread – Mini Tutorial

Hellooooooooooooo my friends!  I am feeling so completely inspired lately.  I love it when my muse is happy, and I can create stuff that I actually like.  On the heels of taking two in-person classes with the fabulous Joanne Sharpe, I pulled out my Dylusions art journal, and some of my new products from the Art House Studio, and this is what happened.  I only wish that I had made a video of my process.  I am doing the next best thing – sharing lots of pictures, and see below for a description of all products and techniques used to create this spread (a mini tutorial).

First, – I am NOT affiliated with any of the blogs, stores, or products mentioned and linked in this post. Since I often get comments/questions about where I get my products –  I purchased all products mentioned in this post from The Art House Studio, in Cambridge, Ontario Canada.

I started with a spread that had already been sprayed with my Dylusions Ink Sprays, and pulled out one of my new Crafter’s Workshop Stencils and glass bead gel, and stenciled the buildings across the bottom. That is the COOLEST effect!  (If you would like to see this technique demonstrated, check out my Youtube video here) After the glass bead gel had fully dried, I added some pan pastel over the top of the glass bead gel (LOVE!).

This is what the stencil looks like (designed by Rhonda Palazzari) -untitled

I used a variety of black permanent markers to draw the circle in the corner, and journaling lines.   Then, I pulled out a few of my favorite shimmery paints – some Silks, as well as some Perfect Pigment Pure Liquid Acrylic (in Green Pearl – *YUM*).  I painted each journaling section with a different shimmery paint.  Then, I did the journaling,  using several different permanent black pens.  Then, I outlined in white with my Uniball Signo white pen.  A little doodling around the edge, and I was finished.  :)

Art Journaling Video!

I am really enjoying my instructor role over at Art Geeks!  I have another Finish in Five challenge up – Episode 3 is a tribute to my awesome art friends.

Speaking of awesome art friends, I attended a couple of courses with THE lettering diva, Joanne Sharpe at The Art House Studio in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada yesterday!  I had such a fabulous time, learning from the best, and meeting (or seeing again) –  some AMAZING and creative, and talented women.
